NYU School Of Medicine to Partner with
Special Olympics NYC Region,
Host 2nd Annual Spring Carnival- April 20th

NEW YORK, April 17, 2006—New York University School of Medicine has for the second year partnered with New York City Special Olympics to host a Spring Carnival.   The Carnival will take place on Thursday, April 20th, 2006, from 3pm-7pm at NYU Medical Center’s Tisch Courtyard, located at 550 1st Avenue, between 30th and 33rd.   The event is open to the Medical Center community, including local residents, staff, and patients.  All profits will be donated to the Special Olympics NYC Region.

This year’s event will feature carnival games, prizes, clowns, live music, a silent auction, face painting, and food and refreshments from local vendors.  Representatives from Special Olympics NYC Region will be present as well.

Last spring, NYU School of Medicine successfully hosted the 1st Annual Special Olympics Carnival, with an attendance of over 600 people.  The event successfully raised over $6,000 for Special Olympics NYC Region.

NYU School of Medicine students feel strongly that the support of the medical school can make a difference in the future of this organization.  New York City Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for all children and adults with disabilities.  These sporting events give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families.  Through their participation in Special Olympics, New York athletes gain confidence and build a positive self-image, which carries into the classroom, the home, the work place and the community.
