Master Scholars Presents: When Germs Travel: Epidemics and Anxiety in America
The Masters Scholars Program at New York University School of Medicine will present a colloquium entitled “When Germs Travel: Epidemics and Anxiety in America” This is the title of a book authored by Dr. Howard Markel, M.D., the George E. Wantz Professor of the History of Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases at the University of Michigan. “When Germs Travel” is an eye-opening account of the continuing struggle to contain the deadly microbes that have plagued human beings for centuries. In this cross-section of history and contemporary social importance, Markel tells the engrossing stories of six major epidemics that broke out in the United States in the late 19th and 20th centuries, and looks at how those medical moments in history could easily repeat themselves in the years to come.
The colloquium will be presented in Schwartz F at New York University School of Medicine, Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 5:30 PM.
