The HIPAA standards have necessitated major changes in how NYU School of
Medicine handles all facets of information management, including
reimbursement, coding, security, patient records and care management. We
are not alone; every hospital and medical practice in the United States
is required to comply with these regulations.
The School of Medicine has developed written policies and procedures
tailored to the ambulatory practices; held training sessions; evaluated
contracts with laboratories, medical suppliers, software vendors and
others with an eye toward how the contracts may affect the privacy of
patient information they transfer or share. Every member of our
workforce must carefully consider how protected health information
should be handled and protected. This web site has been developed to
give you the resources you need to ensure that NYU School of Medicine
remains compliant with the law.
