The 4th Annual Asian American Health Conference's theme Leading the Way, Partnering for Change urges participants to foster leadership and collaboration in generating solutions to address health disparities in the Asian American community.

 

To this end, the Asian American Health Conference has the following goals:

  • To increase awareness and bring together concerned community members, including advocates, clinical providers, direct service providers, researchers, students, grant-makers, the media, and policy makers
  • To broaden and strengthen participation in public and private community-campus collaborations and partnerships
  • To highlight existing efforts to increase participation in community-based participatory research
  • To highlight the continued need for increased ethnic-specific data collection and dissemination
  • To emphasize the importance and to identify opportunities to train culturally and linguistically competent health workers serving the diverse Asian American community
  • To share expertise, skills, and knowledge that will empower community-based organizations, academic institutions, and individuals to be an advocate at the local and national level

The conference will include oral, roundtable, and poster presentations that reflect innovative programs, initiatives or research:
  • Strengthening Leadership – Strategies for Empowerment
  • Responding to Change – New Models for Service Delivery
  • Capturing the Community’s Story – Collection of Baseline Data
  • Partnering for Policy – Translation of Knowledge to Action

    Objectives:
    The conference has a series of objectives that are designed to address the conference theme of Leading the Way, Partnering for Change. By the end of the conference, participants will be competent in:

    • Recognizing the importance of building leadership and power in various sectors in the Asian American community
    • Fostering diverse, inclusive, and equitable collaboration across sectors and communities
    • Leveraging innovative research and best practices to address pan-ethnic and ethnic-specific health issues
    • Advocating for improved policies, funding, and services to ameliorate health disparities in Asian American community
