The Day Surgery Center admission process starts long before you are seen at
our unit. We take an interdisciplinary approach to get to know our patients
better.
Your physician will schedule your procedure and provide us with preliminary
information that introduces you to our department. It is then up to us as
a team to make this process go smoothly.
Pre-Admission Testing
Patients requiring laboratory testing to be performed before their procedure
should schedule an appointment with the Pre-Admission Testing Representatives
at 212-263-5985. These tests should be performed 7-10 days before your
scheduled date of surgery. All required tests can be performed at the hospital
location and then all test results/information would be forwarded to the
location of surgery electronically, relieving the patient of any need for
follow-up.
Preoperative Telephone Conference/Preparation for Day Surgery
Each patient receives a telephone call two working days prior to the scheduled
appointment that provides a thorough pre-admission screening and an opportunity
to discuss specific preparation for the procedure. The nurse will elicit
detailed information about care that needs to be given before the hospital
visit, on the day of the surgery, and after returning home. The nursing
staff work in conjunction with the physician's office.
Arrangements for an escort, family member, or significant other to accompany
you home must be made in advance. Your nurse can assist you with making these
arrangements with our social service department and the various resources
available. Our patients' safety is our prime concern.
If contact is not made by the nursing staff by one day prior to the day
of your procedure, please contact us at 212-263-7213.
Preoperative Telephone Conference/Patient Access for Day Surgery
A Patient Access Representative will telephone you to review your insurance
information, pre-certifications or insurance co-payments that may be required.
They will also review your financial responsibilities, if any, in advance
of your visit to the Day Surgery Center.
If contact is not made by the Patient Access Representative staff by one
day prior to the day of your procedure, please contact us at 212-263-7213.
Day Surgery Center
Upon arrival to the Day Surgery Center, located on the 10th floor of the
Tisch Hospital, you will be greeted by the Reception Secretary. It is important
to inform him/her of your arrival so that we can provide you and your surgical
team with the information needed as expeditiously as possible.
You will then be met by a Day Surgery Patient Access Representative, who
will review your insurance commitments with you.
You will be asked to take a seat in the waiting room while the Preoperative
Assessment Staff set up your private room.
