Bellevue Pediatric Emergency Service

A state-of-the art Pediatric Emergency Medicine facility dedicated to the care of sick and injured children was opened in April 1996. The Pediatric Emergency Service (PES) at Bellevue Hospital Center cares for more than 25,000 children and young adults each year and provides 24 hour attending or fellow coverage. All ill and injured children and young adults less than 25 years of age, including those who require acute resuscitation due to dehydration, sepsis, meningitis, trauma, or toxic exposure, are managed in the PES. As a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, Bellevue receives acutely injured children who require prompt stabilization and management. In addition, Bellevue is a regional Spinal Cord Injury Center and a Limb Reimplantation Center . Since Bellevue is a New York City municipal hospital, the PES also fulfills many primary care needs of inner city children. In addition to multiple examination and isolation rooms, the PES area has its own trauma room, asthma treatment space, and acute care area.
