Tisch Hospital
Tisch Hospital is a modern, 726-bed voluntary hospital staffed entirely by faculty members of the NYU School of Medicine. As the main University Hospital for NYU, Tisch is one of the leading tertiary care referral centers in the region. It has state-of-the-art medical and surgical services with image guidance and laser systems often unavailable at many institutions. The Tisch hospital complex houses the Faculty Practice Offices and the Faculty Practice Hearing Center. The Department's Speech and Swallowing Center has full Laryngeal Video-stroboscopy capabilities. At Tisch hospital, the department maintains a very busy inpatient and outpatient OR schedule. The hospital also supports renowned Neurosurgery, Transplant Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery services that frequently coordinate surgical management of cases with the Otolaryngology Service.
Bellevue Hospital Medical Center
Bellevue Hospital was established over 250 years ago and is regarded as the "flagship" hospital of New York City's municipal hospital system. Its roots can be traced back to 1736 when it was known as the Almshouse, an infirmary established to care for the city's poor. NYU School of Medicine students and resident physicians have been at Bellevue Hospital since 1847.
All of Bellevue's medical services are now provided in a 21-story building opened in 1975. A new state of the art ambulatory care center is under construction and scheduled to be completed by 2004. The hospital has 1,232 beds and is designed to provide the highest quality medical care for the people of New York as well as an academic environment for the training and development of students, residents, and research scientists.
The Otolaryngology Department maintains extensive facilities on the fifth floor in Bellevue Hospital. These include adult and pediatric clinics, the hearing and speech clinics, the temporal bone laboratory, the vestibular testing laboratory, the Shannon Library and conference room, and administrative offices. The Shannon Library has recently been extensively remodeled and contains the department's audio-visual resource center.
Department of Veteran's Affairs Hospital
This 532-bed hospital is one of the largest Veterans hospitals in the United States. Outpatient Otolaryngology services, including audiologic and vestibular testing, are provided on the second floor. Hearing and speech services are available as well. A major new facility for expanded outpatient services and new operating rooms has recently opened. This includes new otolaryngology clinics, faculty offices, and housestaff offices. The Veterans Affairs Medical Center is also one of seven cochlear implant centers in the VA system.
Lenox Hill Hospital
A voluntary Hospital located on Manhattan's Upper East Side; Lenox Hill has a large number of Attending Surgeons who perform cases that reflect the entire spectrum of otolaryngologic surgery. The Operating Room is extremely busy offering the residents a wealth of cases in which to participate. Residents also cover Operating Cases being performed at Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital. The residents have been integrated into the otolaryngologic inpatient service, and receive didactic teaching in conferences at Lenox Hill Hospital. The Attendings at Lenox Hill Hospital are NYU Clinical Faculty and participate in NYU conferences, resident selection and evaluation.
