Graduate Medical Education represents the critical link between medical
students and the physicians, researchers, and educators they become.
Our over 1,000 "house staff" physicians receive hands-on,
intensive training in over 70 medical specialties under the supervision
and academic direction of the NYU faculty and attending physicians.
Through strategic affiliations with hospitals such as Bellevue Hospitals
Center, the Veteran?s Affairs Hospital, and the Hospital for Joint
Diseases, our programs offer exceptional breadth and depth of training.
The mission of the Office for Graduate Medical Education is to provide
the support, direction, and oversight for this effort, and to continuously
raise the standards of the Graduate Medical Education we provide.
Specific functions of this Office include:
- Coordinating and supporting the efforts of the NYU
Graduate Medical Education Committee and component subcommittees (House
Staff Council, Curriculum Subcommittee, Technology Subcommittee, Policy
Subcommittee, and House Staff Well Being Subcommittee).
- Providing the oversight to maintain and expand our
nationally-recognized, accredited and non-accredited specialty training
programs.
- Developing an institutional infrastructure of policies
and systems that support best practices in the education and training
of residents and fellows.
- Conducting ongoing operational analyses and applying
strategies to maximize our partnerships, technologies, and intellectual
resources.
