NYU Medical Center's Summer Blood Drive 2006 got a huge boost thanks to New York State Senator Liz Kreuger, who successfully sponsered the three-day event in July. Each year, the Medical Center supplies more than 45,000 units of blood components to meet the needs of 30,000 patients, of whom 6,000 receive transfusions. During the summer months, blood donations decline by 10 to 15 percent, while the number of patients in need of blood never decreases. Senator Kreuger's efforts resulted in 22 pints of blood to the NYU Donor Center.
