Our pediatric clinical psychologist provides direct and consultative services to patients and families including psychological screenings, neuropsychological testing, and behavioral interventions for specific difficulties (e.g. sadness, nervousness, sleep difficulties, fears, pain, and difficulties with medical procedures). Upon becoming a patient at Hassenfeld, an initial consultation will be offered by a member of the patient’s treatment team.
Patients and family members can request a consultation at any time directly from the Psychology Office by calling our main number. During this process, parents and caregivers will participate in designing a specific plan to assist their child and family through the treatment process. Parent and caregivers will also obtain information about what to expect after treatment is completed. Opportunities for ongoing psychotherapeutic support using pediatric psychology interventions and cognitive rehabilitation are available. Our psychologist also acts as a liaison with psychiatry and provides outside referrals for additional mental health services.
Psychological services are covered under most insurance plans as part of hematology or oncology treatment at Hassenfeld or as outpatient mental health benefits. Hassenfeld invites families to meet with on-site Financial Counselors to determine which mental health benefits are available through specific insurance plans. Sliding fee scales are also available to cover out-of-network costs or consultations that are not covered by insurance.
