The Department of Neurosurgery's interdisciplinary
team of physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals
is prepared to diagnose and treat the total spectrum of neurological
problems. With an approach that blends compassionate care,
support for families, and advanced technology, these healthcare
professionals continue to bring new hope for recovery to
patients with brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations,
and functional brain disorders such as Parkinson's disease
and epilepsy. The Department's neurosurgeons use the Leksell
Gamma Knife®, a minimally invasive tool that requires
no incision, to remove brain abnormalities that are too difficult
to reach with traditional surgical procedures. The first
such device in the New York metropolitan area, the Gamma
Knife has already benefited more than 800 patients in the
few years since its arrival at NYU Medical Center.
