Mentoring of students takes place through the combined efforts of the Senior
Associate Deans for Education and Student Affairs and the Master Scholars Program
described above. The goal of the mentoring process is to provide students with
a network of resources in order to facilitate intellectual, professional, and
personal development. The deans offer a large number and variety of resources
and programs, including formal introductions to the clinical departments and
the selection of a career. In the Master Scholars Program, mentoring may occur
in a variety of ways, e.g., helping students to identify projects for independent
study and summer research, providing curriculum and career guidance, discussing
ethical/political/legal issues of importance to medicine and to society, and
fostering collegiality.
