The American Geriatrics Society awarded a grant to the NYU School of Medicine to improve training in geriatrics for rehabilitation residents.
Dr. Lydia Rolita in the Section of Geriatrics is collaborating with Dr. Valery Lanyi in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to redesign the geriatrics component of the rehabilitation residency curriculum.
In an innovative feature, residents will participate in a community-based multidisciplinary fall prevention program for the elderly. By working with Geriatrics physicians, social workers and nurses to assess an elder’s living space and learn about the risk factors that predispose the elderly to fall, rehabilitation residents will learn to develop an interdisciplinary plan to modify these risk factors.
