Research in the Division of Hematology

The Division of Hematology has traditionally had a strong research orientation, with a wide range of cutting-edge investigations. The Division has one of the few NIH-sponsored hematology training grants in the country and investigators in the Division have also received NIH Research Development Awards for current projects on hypoxic regulation of cellular proliferation, apoptosis, DNA damage and genomic stability, the relationship of human telomeres and telomerase to oncogenesis and potential therapeutic interventions for human malignancy.

Other current areas of research include platelet physiology, the molecular biology of polycythemia vera, HTLV-associated disorders, angiogenesis, bone marrow transplatation, drug resistance in acute leukemia and HIV-associated malignancies.
