Didatic Teaching

A comprehensive formal teaching program is provided for the pulmonary/critical care fellows. In July and August an extensive series of lectures basic principles of pulmonary and critical care medicine given to first year trainees. An extensive basic science core curriculum is given during August to third year fellows. Simulators are used for both teaching in critical care and pulmonary procedures.

Some of the Conferences and Lecture Series within the Division of Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine include: Pulmonary and Critical Grand Rounds. Grand Rounds is held weekly and is oriented toward advances in basic research in pulmonary and critical care medicine. It is held in Bellevue and is an opportunity to integrate basic science research into the program and introduce potential research preceptors to the fellows. Each fellow presents a grand rounds topic in physiology and basic science.

Pulmonary / Critical Care Clinical Conference

The Clinical Conference is held in Bellevue on Fridays and covers an interesting and illustrative clinical case. The fellows present the case and coordinate guest speakers under the direction of Dr. Addrizzo-Harris. The clinical conference rotates among the fellows from the Bellevue Chest Service, Bellevue Consultation Service, Bellevue MICU, Veterans’ Administration Pulmonary and Critical Care Services and Tisch MICU/CCU and Pulmonary Service. A Journal Club format is done every other month under the direction of Dr. Steve Chang.

Chest Radiology Conference

Weekly a chest radiology conference provides teaching to fellows on chest x-ray and chest CT scan interpretation.

Pulmonary Pathology Conference

Regular pulmonary pathology conferences are held at the Bellevue Veterans Administration hospitals and Tisch Hospital.

Tuberculosis Conference

Meets weekly to discuss difficult management cases of TB and MDRTB.

Bellevue Chest Surgery/Thoracic Oncology Conference

These conferences meet weekly at each institution. This weekly multi-disciplinary conference reviews thoracic surgery or oncology cases. Faculty and fellows from pulmonary, cardiothoracic surgery, medical oncology, and radiation oncology attend.

ICU Physiology Conference

The Bellevue MICU fellow leads an in-depth review of important physiological principles as they apply to individual patients in the MICU. The first conference of the month is a critical care case management conference held jointly with the Anesthesia Critical Care Service.

Molecular and Cell Biology Research Meeting

Molecular and Cell Biology Research Meeting. Each Friday morning a research meeting is held to review the projects and data of fellows and faculty performing basic and clinical research.
