The mission of the NYU Department of Neurology is to train clinically competent, board-eligible neurologists; nurture clinical and basic neuroscience research; educate medical students in neurology; and provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services.

This mission is supported by the program’s abundant assets. The large faculty provides expertise in the many subspecialty areas of a contemporary neurological practice. A comprehensive inventory of modern diagnostic equipment assists in the diagnosis of routine as well as the more unusual neurological disorders. Collegial association among all NYU clinicians ensures prompt expert consultation and diagnosis as well as the widest possible spectrum of theapeutic options for our patients. Collaborative interaction with the NYU basic neuroscience faculty provides valuable resources for investigation in fundamental mechanisms in neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neurogenetics, neuroimmunology and vision science.

Over the last several years, numerous specialty care and research centers have arisen at NYU, spearheaded by the faculty who have developed their visions and invested their energy, and they attract physicians and patients alike to the unparalleled diversity of neurological care services available at NYU. Neurological disorders for which specialty care centers have been developed at NYU include Parkinson’s Disease, neuromuscular diseases, neurogenetic disorders, brain cancer, headaches in children, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, aging and memory disorders, epilepsy, developmental disorders, language and learning disorders, autonomic diseases and stroke.
