PROFILES OF EXCELLENCE

Kate Relling, MSN, APRN, CNA, BC
Nurse Manager HCC-10, Psychiatry

A past recipient of the Wholeness of Life Award from the Healthcare Chaplaincy, Kate Relling brings her broad experience from working in Medicine, Intensive Care, Coronary Care, and Psychiatry into her role as the Nurse Manager of our Psychiatry Unit, for which she has provided unit-based leadership for many years.

She received her BSN from Molloy College and her MSN in Psychiatric Nursing from Hunter College, and is certified in Nursing Administration, as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.

Ms. Relling is actively involved in both practice and education. She has served as a Clinical Associate faculty member for the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing and has authored articles on coping with critical illness and on transference and counter-transference in the nurse-patient relationship. 

In addition, she has developed numerous highly regarded programs in the areas of communication, conflict resolution, transference and counter-transference in pastoral care, listening and assertiveness, and seclusion and restraint, which she has presented at NYU Hospitals Center, Bellevue Hospital Center, and NYU College of Nursing. She is a member of our Medical Ethics Committee and is lobbying on behalf of NYONE for legislation to Advance Education of Professional Registered Nurses.
