Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) / Cardiovascular Surgical Care Unit (CVSCU)

Nurse Manager: Martha Kent, MSN, RN, CNAA BC

  • The PACU/CVSCU is a 27 bed unit comprised of:
    • 22 bed general PACU which provides comprehensive acute and critical care nursing care during the immediate postoperative recovery phase.
    • The client population, crossing the spectrum of ages from geriatrics to infants, includes but is not limited to those individuals who are recovering from the following procedures:
      • Bariatric Surgery
      • General Surgery
      • GYN Surgery
      • Neurosurgery
      • Orthopedics
      • Otolaryngology Surgery
      • Plastics/Reconstructive Surgery
      • Thoracic Surgery
      • Transplant Surgery
      • Urological Surgery
      • Vascular Surgery
    • 5 bed open heart recovery room providing acute critical care nursing care  to those cardiovascular patients undergoing but not  limited to:
      • Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
      • Implantable Left Ventricular Assist Devices
      • Valvular Surgery
  • No prior PACU experience required; new graduates are required to have had a critical care preceptorship/externship, and experienced RN’s are required to have had 1 year medical/surgical experience.
  • 12 week extensive orientation inclusive of classroom instruction and onsite preceptorship in both units
