Objective Structured Clinical Evaluations (OSCE) Schedule

An Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) is generally scheduled for the fourth week of the rotation. It will commence at noon, prior to which an attendance sheet will be passed around for students to choose their preferred time to participate.

During the OSCE, students rotate through two different patient-care scenarios (~15 minutes each) and are expected to perform a focused clinical assessment of patients. Patients are played by Standardized Patients, actors trained to simulate a patient in a standardized manner.

The OSCE allows for direct observation of a variety of competency areas, such as communication skills and clinical reasoning. No prior reading is required; students will be given information at the start of their session. A debriefing session will be held at the end.
