Meet Our Staff

Dr. Stephanie V. Blank joined the faculty of NYU School of Medicine in August of 2001 as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Blank is a motivated clinician who brings fresh new ideas with her from her most recent appointment with the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. Her credentials include faculty appointments at The University of Pennsylvania Medical Center as an Instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center as an Assistant Instructor in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Her research experiences include the Rockefeller University, Yale University, and National Aeronautics & Space Administration. While her research has encompassed a wide variety of gynecologic oncology topics - including cervical cancer and endometrial cancer - she has a special interest in gene therapy and its related issues. Dr. Blanks attained her MD from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine and completed her fellowship in gynecologic oncology at University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.

Dr. John P. Curtin joined the faculty at NYU School of Medicine in September 1999 from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Cornell University Medical College in New York City. He is the current Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a nationally recognized cancer surgeon and researcher, directs the program for comprehensive care of women with cancer and is also the Director of Strategic Planning for the Women's Cancer Program at the Rita J. and Stanley H. Kaplan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Curtin's practice is devoted to women with cancer of the uterus, cervix and ovaries and his research is especially focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of these cancers. Dr. Curtin is not accepting patients at this time.

Dr. David A. Fishman, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director of Gynecologic Oncology at New York University School of Medicine, is an internationally recognized gynecologic oncologist, especially noted for his innovative research on the regulation of ovarian metastasis and in developing new methods for the early detection of ovarian carcinoma. Dr. Fishman also serves as the Director of Cancer Screening and Prevention at the New York University Cancer Institute and is Professor of Graduate Faculty, Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Fishman received his medical degree from Texas Tech School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology at the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Fishman has authored over 230 scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters and 5 books on gynecologic malignancies. His research has received awards from the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, Gynecologic Cancer Foundation, American Cancer Society and the Berlex Foundation.
He provides editorial service for 43 medical and scientific journals and is a member of national and international cancer institute study sections from the National Cancer Institute and Centers for Disease Control to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is a member of many medical societies and patient advocacy groups including the American Gynecologic and Obstetrical Society, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, AOA, the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
Dr. Robert C. Wallach joined the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine in 1990. Born and brought up in Brooklyn, Dr. Wallach was awarded New York State Regents college and medical school scholarships and received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine. After his rotating internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology, he served as a fellow at the Gynecological Tumor Service, State University of New York.
During his time as Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine, he has helped establish and is currently Director Emeritus and an active member of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. He has also served at Bellevue Hospital, where he was the previous Director of Gynecologic Oncology and is currently active in teaching, clinical care, and the research program. He is also a former Chairman of the Section on Obstetrics and Gynecology, New York Academy of Medicine and served on the Committee on Public Health. With over 150 peer-reviewed academic journal articles, letters, text books and chapters, Dr. Wallach shares many clinical interests with the other members of the division, including early tumor detection, advanced surgical techniques and improved application of chemotherapy.
