Our Mission
The Office of Medical Education is a centralized resource to faculty planning curriculum development, faculty development and implementation and assessment of the educational program at the NYU School of Medicine.
Who We Are
As Director of the Office of Medical Education, Dr. Chase enhances
the educational experience of both students and faculty at NYU School
of Medicine. Her responsibilities include multiple aspects of curriculum
development, faculty development and program evaluation. Dr. Chase
collaborates with module/clerkship directors, offering expertise
in the development of course goals, objectives, syllabi, and creation
of student assessments. She plays an integral role in the development
of innovative teaching methods and student assessment modalities
including the Surgery Education Center, Clinical Skills Lab, the
creation of Objective Structured Clinical Evaluations (OSCE’s),
and Electronic Teaching Tools such as the Surgery Interactive Multimedia
Simulations (WISE-MD). She advocates for the introduction of new
themes into the curriculum, such as, evidence based medicine and
professionalism. Dr. Chase oversees the online evaluations of all
basic science courses, clerkships, and electives, as well as the
residency evaluations of NYU graduates. Dr. Chase is an active member
of the Curriculum Committee, collaborating on the development and
implementation of institutional governance policies as well as curricular
reform.
Eileen Cahill-Gallant, MPA (263-2109)
Curriculum Coordinator
As Curriculum Coordinator, Ms. Cahill-Gallant organizes the second-year Mechanisms of Disease and Host Defense Modules, coordinates basic science course scheduling, and assists in implementing new educational programs. She collaborates with the Module Directors to produce syllabi, maintain the course websites and develop exams. In addition, she is also responsible for planning the Clerkship Orientation in which rising third-year students spend two weeks preparing for their clinical education. This orientation comprises several hands-on experiences including workshops in IV/Veinipuncture, Fundoscopy, Otoscopy, Developing a Differential Diagnosis, and certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Ms. Cahill-Gallant is a member of the Curriculum Committee and provides support for Course/Clerkship Directors in planning and implementing curricular reform.
Nina
Rivera (263-5064)
Project Associate
Ms. Rivera is a Project Associate in the Office of Medical Education.
Her role is to assist Dr. Chase in the overall implementation of
the Office of Medical Education projects. She is responsible for
production of basic science, clinical clerkship and elective evaluation
reports, the residency outcome analysis reports, and providing support
for curricular reform efforts. Ms. Rivera also assists in the further
development and implementation of the Clinical Clerkship Student
Evaluations.
Joseph Leo (263-2241)
Project Associate
Mr. Leo is a Project Associate in the Office of Medical Education. His role is to assist in the coordination of the Basic Science Curriculum. Mr. Leo is responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of the Mechanisms of Disease Exam Database which is used to store exam questions and images, track statistical information, and generate new exams as needed. Mr. Leo also coordinates the Advanced Science Selectives for rising fourth year students. Students choose a selective through a lottery process; each is an in-depth, seminar- and original-literature-based program with a focus on basic sciences.
