Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD, Walter A.L. Thompson Professor and Chairman of the NYU HJD Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, was elected First Vice President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) at the Academy's Annual Meeting in San Francisco on March 15, 2008. This is his second year in a three year period of service which will culminate in his appointment as Academy President for the year 2009-10.
Dr. Zuckerman was elected a junior member-at-large of the AAOS in 1992. Since then, he has served as chair of the Surgical Skills Committee and most recently as chair of the Council on Education.
The AAOS is the world's largest and most prestigious medical association of musculoskeletal specialists, serving 24,000 members internationally.
