From young students and dancers in emerging independent groups to seasoned professionals and members of internationally acclaimed companies, the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries has treated over 12,000 artists since being established in 1989.
The Harkness Center offers many subsidized and free services for the dance community, including clinics staffed by orthopedists and dance physical therapists, some from the NYU HJD Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. These healthcare professionals help provide dancers at all levels with medical evaluations, systematic analysis of factors contributing to dancers’ musculoskeletal dysfunctions, practical treatment programs, and preventive maintenance programs tailored to individual needs.
Harkness also offers state-of-the art research and rehabilitation technology and free injury prevention screenings and lectures.
