Research in the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is done primarily through the Musculoskeletal Research Center (MRC), the main research facility of the department. The staff at the MRC help coordinate the research endeavors of NYU HJD Orthopaedic residents and faculty in various locations.
MRC scientists work to create and discover treatments, techniques, and devices that improve the treatment of patients with a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, from arthritis to broken bones to damaged cartilage and genetic disorders that affect the musculoskeletal system.

About the Musculoskeletal Research Center
The Center occupies 4,000 square feet of research laboratory space at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases (301 East 17th Street). The space is dedicated to research in molecular biology, tissue engineering, gene discovery and regulation, biomaterials, bioengineering, and cell biology, complemented by extensive materials testing, microscope, cell culture, computer, and machining facilities. Research also takes place in satellite facilities throughout the Medical Center and affiliated hospitals like Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center.
