Subspecialty residents have available several library facilities and means of accessing the medical literature. The main medical school library, the Ehrman Medical Library, houses approximately 155,000 volumes and most medical journals. It is fully computerized and internet-connected. Multiple terminals are available for computerized Medline and Pubmed searches and courses are offered in internet searching, word-processing and database management. A weekly Medline literature update service is offered. Journals or books that are not housed in the Ehrman Library are readily available by inter-library loans. The library is open 7 days a week and has a full media center and photocopying facilities.

The Bellevue Hospital Library, located on the 14th floor of the hospital is a smaller clinically-oriented library that carries the most frequently cited journals, including most of the infectious disease journals and many of the immunology journals. It is opened weekdays from 9-5 PM.

The Department of Pediatrics has a small library that houses most of the major pediatric textbooks and general pediatric journals. In addition, it has 2 computer terminals that are connected to the Ehrman Library and the internet.

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases has a small collection that includes most of the standard texts in pediatric and adult infectious diseases, tropical diseases, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology and experimental laboratory methodology. In addition, there are multiple computer terminals that allow ready access to the Ehrman Library and Pubmed and Medline searches via the internet. The library is accessible 365 days a year.

A one-day course on searching Medline and other medical literature sources and using Endnote and Powerpoint is provided to the subspecialty resident at the beginning of the first year.
