Preoperative Instructions
Regardless of the type of procedure you are having; in
order to optimize the safety and outcome of your
surgical procedure, it is critical that you carefully follow these
preoperative instructions.
Two weeks before surgery:
Please do not take any NSAIDS. This includes aspirin, motrin, alleve,
naprosyn, and others.
If you have questions about which medications are safe before surgery,
please call or email Dr.
Levey’s office.
Seven days before surgery:
You should have scheduled your visit with pre-surgical testing.(212)263-5985
Feel free to call Dr. Levey's office with any questions. Please
take medications as instructed.
Day before surgery:
Only clear liquids to eat after 12:00 Noon (see below for clear
liquids diet). unless Dr. Levey has told you otherwise.
Nothing to eat after midnight!
Please use Fleet's Phospho soda at 3pm and then at 9 pm.

Day of surgery:
Wake up with a positive attitude!
Remember: Nothing to eat. It is ok to take sips of water to wet
your mouth.
Please use a Fleet's enema in the AM, if Dr. Levey has instructed
you to do so.
We'll see you in the preoperative area to answer any additional
questions.
After surgery Dr. Levey will discuss your progress and findings
only with the person(s) you designate before surgery.
Clear liquids diet
- Water, tea or coffee (no milk or non-dairy creamer); sweetners
are okay
- Soft drinks (orange, ginger ale, cola, Sprite®, 7-Up®,
etc.), Gatorade®, Kool-Aid®
- Strained fruit juices without pulp (apple, white grape, orange,
lemonade, etc.)
