Telephone Psychoanalysis
Presenter: Marina Mirkin, M.D.
Discussant: Jane Kite, PhD
Over the last several years, there has been increasing interest in the use of the phone in psychoanalytic practice, without much systematic attention to how it works. In this presentation, the clinical material from six years of analysis is used to explore the impact of intermittent work over the phone on different aspects of psychoanalytic treatment, including defense analysis and analysis of aggression. This case will serve as a springboard for discussion of the benefits and pitfalls of telephone analysis.
