Buspirone Augmentation
of Serotonergic Antidepressants: Method
- An open, uncontrolled
study was conducted to determine whether buspirone has an augmenting
effect on the therapeutic potency of the SSRIs, fluoxetine, paroxetine,
and the TCA clomipramine.
- Thirty patients ó14 men and 16 women ó who
met DSM-IIIR or DSM-IV criteria for major depression (single or recurrent
episode) were included in the study.
- All patients had
received serotonergic antidepressant medication longer than 6 weeks
with no improvement before inclusion in the study, and continued the
medication for the study duration along with buspirone for 4 to 5 weeks.
