Each intern begins the year with a small outpatient caseload that expands as the year progresses. Cases are assigned from a variety of clinics and services depending on an intern's particular track. A supervisor is assigned to each case, and he or she remains with the case until termination. Supervision is provided by psychologists and psychiatrists on the faculty. Our pool of supervisors represents a wide range of theoretical orientations including cognitive, behavioral, family systems, and psychodynamic. Each intern treats children, adolescents and adults, and experience is gained in individual, group and family modalities. Evening hours are required for some outpatient sessions.
Each intern will also be responsible for conducting psychological assessments of both outpatients and inpatients over the course of the year. Screenings and intake assessments may also be required from time to time. These assessments are supervised by members of the NYU-Bellevue psychology faculty and are selected to meet both the clinical needs of our patients as well as the intern’s individual interests.
Some interns may also elect to carry outpatients from Electives as part of their outpatient caseloads.
