Breast Imaging
Hildegard Toth, MD, Section Chief
The Breast Imaging Section is staffed by board-certified radiologists trained in breast imaging and diagnosis. The staff interprets more than 30,000 exams per year, providing service to a wide range of patients with diverse demographic backgrounds.
The Breast Imaging Section is equipped with the latest in breast screening and diagnostic tools, and offers analog and full-field digital mammography, dedicated breast ultrasound, and breast MRI. To assist in accurate diagnosis, we perform all modes of percutaneous image-guided biopsies. These procedures include fine-needle aspiration (which allows for immediate preliminary cytologic results), core biopsies, and Mammotome sampling. These exams are tracked and analyzed by a comprehensive data and reporting system.
The Breast Imaging Section practice is located in the NYU Cancer Institute Clinical Center, on 34th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues. Additional practice sites include the Rita J. Kaplan Breast Imaging Center at Bellevue Hospital and the Gouverneur Outpatient Center.
Our current research focuses on new technologies that promise to enhance the early detection of breast cancer, particularly in those women at high risk.
