Information Technology

The department goes to great lengths to maintain current and state of the art learning aids. We have long maintained a library of current radiology texts and have supplemented printed materials with multimedia tools. We survey the faculty and residents annually to insure that our library remains relevant to the dynamic changes in radiology and learning technology.

We maintain two complete sets of the American College of Radiology teaching multimedia teaching files. An additional set of CD ROMS is available in the medical library.

The Residents’ Learning Center is in the Bellevue Radiology Department and serves as a multimedia and text library; it houses five PC’s with CD burners and internet connections. A set of CD ROM teaching files and hardware with an internet connection is kept in the Tisch resident room. The Bellevue call area also has a computer with internet access. The residents have access to the Ehrman Medical Library providing institutional subscriptions to major journals and a variety of databases (such as MD Consult) from which text references on any topic can be accessed. The library gives conferences in strategic uses of search engines.

Teaching materials at Residents' Learning Center

We are currently engaged in the process of developing a web based teaching file for residents. This system would allow residents to access cases shown in conferences and provide an in-house repository of annotated teaching cases.

ResWeb is web based application which has become the primary means of storing and sharing data concerning all aspects of the residency program. The following information is currently available at the site: Rotation Schedule; Call Schedule; Conference Schedule; Subspecialty Conference Schedules; Diagnostic Imaging Protocols; Contrast Policies; Curriculum, Rotation Expectations; Evaluations (Review of resident evaluations by attendings and means for residents to evaluate rotations); Resident Phone and email list and Announcements.

Each of our new residents is given a PalmPilot. Special applications are available so that the residents can log their cases on the PDA.
