Investigation of the Interactions between Humans and Computers
Anton Saarimaki MCS
Department of Special Programs (General Clinical Research Center)

Research Summary
Computers are very complex systems and the interfaces that must be used are often more complex. Usually a set of assumptions are made by interface designers (a metaphor) that users must learn or be taught. Without explicit knowledge of the design these metaphors are often overlooked leading to misunderstandings and problems. We are interested in these assumptions and how they are defined and explained.

Elegant solutions are the goal, providing systems the perform the required tasks without awkward concessions having to be made for the computer. Identifying computing needs (and solutions) is very dificult for many users. Research projects can be very complicated with intricate data management and analysis requirements. We attempt to providing appropriate solutions using available applications or technology and programming as required. Users are closely followed to enable us to assist them, refining systems, providing alternative solutions or additional education.
