What are the admission guidelines?
Eligible applicants are those who are in college, who have just recently graduated college, and who are at least seventeen years old and seniors in high school. Admission is selective, and it is strongly encouraged, though not required, that you have taken a minimum of basic science classes. Applications must be postmarked by the application deadline of February 15, 2008. Applications with missing information will not be considered.
Can I participate in the HCOP again?
In general, the HCOP aims to provide new students with limited exposure to medicine the opportunity to explore various health careers. However, in certain instances, students may have the opportunity to work again in the HCOP.
What is a typical day like?
Students begin each day interning in the department of their choice. In the late afternoon, the students meet as a large group for daily lectures and multimedia presentations concerning different healthcare issues. Once a week, students meet in small groups to discuss short readings that focus on important topics such as medical ethics and problems faced by individuals with various types of handicaps and disabilities.
What are the hours of participation for the program?
Depending on the department and the supervisor to which the student is assigned, the day begins at either 8am or 9am. The day ends at 4pm for all students.
How much does the program cost?
The program is free.
How much does the program pay?
The program does not pay a stipend or a salary. Participation is completely voluntary.

What do I wear?
Students are expected to dress professionally. An HCOP jacket will be given to each student upon arrival the first day. Students will also be photographed and receive a Photo ID.
