April is Occupational Therapy Month!

The NYU School of Medicine was awarded a grant by the American Geriatric Society to improve training in geriatrics for rehabilitation residents.

Rusk Therapy Departments Receive Grant
The Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy Departments received a $35,000.00 grant from The Helen Hoffritz Charitable Trust Fund.

The Occupational Therapy Department recently sponsored an upper extremity neurological rehabilitation course on February 4 th and 5 th at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine.

The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine Announces Merger with NYUHJD Rehabilitation, New Inpatient Specialty Programs, and The New Rusk Rehab Network
In an effort to fulfill our mission of “Leading the way in Rehabilitation Medicine: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” the Rusk Institute announced the following new initiatives: as a major part of the NYU Hospitals Center, the Rehabilitation Program at NYUHJD has merged with the Rusk Institute; the Rusk Institute has also expanded its inpatient specialty rehabilitation programs to offer more focused rehabilitation services for stroke, musculoskeletal, and medically complex cases; the Rusk Institute also has implemented an expanded continuum of care by partnering with some of New York’s finest skilled nursing facilities as part of the new Rusk Rehabilitation Network.

The Rusk Institute announced that it has begun a renovation of its Pediatric Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit, effective February, 2006.

Siemens Corporation Engineers a Little Fun for Kids at Rusk
As a new quarterly program with the children and teens, Cem Gunesen, the Public Affairs Program Coordinator for Siemen’s Corporation brings an engineer to the Rusk pediatric unit to educate the kids about basic engineering principles and then conducts fun activities to demonstrate what they’ve learned first hand.

Rusk Music Therapist and Sr. Social Worker Record Guided Meditation CD for Distribution to Patients
Music Therapist Alessandro Ricciarelli, MT-BC conducts weekly “Meditation with Music” groups at the Rusk Institute for patients and families. These groups are also available at Tisch Hospital where they are co-facilitated by Sr. Social Worker and Hypno-Therapist Bette Jean Rosenhagen, LCSW, Coordinator of the Integrative Health and Wellness Program at NYUMC.
