The Stroke Rehabilitation program at the Rusk Institute offers comprehensive care by a team of specialists who provide integrated treatment for the problems associated with stroke. The Inpatient Stroke Program has its foundations in Rusk’s longstanding and renowned stroke patient care and research.
The team involved in the rehabilitation process includes the patient, family members and the following specialists:
• Physiatrists (a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and who functions as the team leader)
• Rehabilitation Nurses
• Physical Therapists
• Occupational Therapists
• Nutritionists
• Psychologists
• Speech-language Pathologist
• Social Workers
• Recreation Therapists
• Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors
• Swallowing Disorder Specialists
• Horticultural Therapists
• Orthotists and Prosthetists
All members of the Rusk Stroke rehabilitation team have specialized training to treat and provide health care to stroke patients. Many of our team members have achieved the highest levels of terminal degrees in their respective disciplines including doctoral and PhD degrees while publishing significant scientific works addressing stroke rehabilitation. In addition many possess specialty certifications and training in all aspects of stroke health care and rehabilitation. Many staff members are multilingual, and interpreters are available as needed.
