January 8, 2001, the NIH issued a reminder
of the format requirements for grant applications. In addition to
the specific format instructions already available in the various
grant application packages, such as the PHS 398, PHS 416, Phase
I SBIR and STTR, and Phase II SBIR and STTR instructions (available
at http://grants.nih.gov ), and the email address for general,
application-related questions, the NIH has also created an email
address specifically for formatting questions and a site to address
such questions (format@mail.nih.gov,
grantsinfor@nih.gov
and http://www.format.nih.gov, respectively). Our office would also like
to remind you that already formatted PDF and Excel files with Instructions
which include Printing Tips and Help with using Adobe and Excel
are available at our web site (see the Application Tools tab). This
is particularly important, as the NIH has stated in this Notice
that:
Applications that do not comply with the
specifications for type size, page limits, or margins will be
returned to the institution without review. These applications
cannot be submitted in a corrected version until the next receipt
cycle.
