The Multidisciplinary Melanoma Program is one of the largest and most well-established programs in the United States, treating over 700 patients with melanoma each year. A direct extension of the NYU Tumor Service, the oldest clinical service designed to specifically care for patients with a diagnosis of cancer, the NYU Melanoma Program’s foundation is based on the experience and expertise of a broad range of medical professionals with a special interest in research and the treatment of patients with malignant melanoma. The program includes the departments/divisions of Surgical Oncology, Dermatology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Dermatopathology , Anatomic Pathology, Immunonology, and Genetics, as well as the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, and Social and Psychology Services.
A complete state-of-the-art treatment plan is designed for each patient with melanoma by our committed team of medical specialists. The plan is refined and maintained using interdisciplinary tumor board discussions, melanoma patient management conferences, pigmented lesion conferences, and research protocol development and review committees. In addition, an Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group (IMCG) has been established to coordinate the study of melanoma among the various medical specialties, with the aim of identifying new clinical prognostic variables and concentrating a multidisciplinary approach toward the development and implementation of new translational (from laboratory bench to patient) treatments.
The goal of our program is quite simply to offer a patient with a diagnosis of melanoma the most complete, cutting edge, and individualized treatment in a caring, professional, and private setting.
