Requirements for Acceptance to fellowship (including
application deadline date):
Candidates for the fellowship program must have completed plastic surgery training in an accredited program in the United States or have completed comparable training/experience in a foreign hospital center. Applications should be received no later than September 15 prior to the start of the fellowship. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be invited to spend a day at the Institute interviewing with Craniofacial Surgery and Orthodontics team.

Length of Training Program: Appointments are for 12 months from July 1st through June 30th
Description of Fellowship: The Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship at the IRPS is one of the longest running Craniofacial Fellowships in the United States. Over 30 fellows have completed this training program. Fellows will attend the Variety Center for Craniofacial Rehabilitation, a multidisciplinary clinic developed for the study and treatment of severe craniofacial malformations. The fellow will also attend the Center for Comprehensive Cleft Care, Center for Developmental Ear Anomalies, and Center for Vascular Anomalies of the Head and Neck. The fellow receives comprehensive training in pediatric and adult craniofacial and orthognathic surgery. Working with a full-time craniofacial orthodontist, the fellow will be intimately involved in the preoperative work-up and surgical planning. Fellows will also learn to create occlusal splints and perform model surgery for orthognathic cases. Both private and clinic cases are treated. A wide range of clinical and basic science research activities are available and the fellow is strongly encouraged to participate.
Responsibilities of Fellows:
In addition to technical training, the educational curriculum is designed to develop clinical acumen, improve decision making skills, and the management of complex treatment programs. The fellow will present all patients at the weekly Variety Center for Craniofacial Rehabilitation and participate in all craniofacial operations. Ample time is allocated to assist the residents on surgical cases at Bellevue Hospital under the supervision of an attending surgeon. Clinical research or basic science projects are strongly encouraged.
Other Related Activities:
Fellows attend all conferences at the IRPS.
Research Activities:
Fellows are required to undertake clinical or laboratory research.

Malpractice Requirements:
Fellows are covered for malpractice and are eligible for group life insurance, medical insurance, and disability.
State Licensure Requirements:
Candidates must have a New York License or Limited Permit. Foreign graduates must have an ECFMG Certificate.
